The electrical engineering sector has long been reliant on apprenticeships for training up the next generation of skilled workers and Quartzelec remains committed to its Apprenticeship programme to build the future of engineering, providing relevant skills to the next generation and investing in the future of the Quartzelec business.
Early February marked National Apprenticeship Week (NAW), an initiative to bring together businesses and apprentices across the country to highlight the positive impact that apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses and the wider economy.
Multiple themes were profiled including ‘Employer Focus’ where some of our managers and mentors discussed the positive impact Apprentices have had across the whole Quartzelec business. There was also as an ‘Apprentice Showcase’ with some of our apprentices sharing what they are enjoying most about their apprenticeship with Quartzelec. We also chose to celebrate our most recent ‘Graduate Apprentices’ as they told us more about why they chose to complete an Apprenticeship, how it has benefited them, and sharing their tips for success!
A glimpse of an Apprentice Assessment Day, held at our Grimsby Operations, highlighted the process for candidates who apply for apprenticeships. They were invited to see first-hand what the business is all about and learn about the opportunities available as they participated in practical sessions. These included dis-assembling LV motors as well as a Q&A session with members of the team, focusing on engineering life.
Commenting on the overall apprenticeship programme, Lindsey Moffitt, Human Resources Director for Quartzelec said: “Homegrown talent is the best! We have had the privilege of welcoming over 30 apprentices this past year into Quartzelec and we aim to beat that next year. It’s important of course to thank those who are mentoring our younger intake, as without them knowledge is not passed on to the next generation and could be lost.”
National Apprenticeship Week is a fantastic opportunity for the skills community to highlight the many successes that the apprenticeships programme delivers and to both celebrate and promote apprenticeships across England, by showcasing the progression opportunities and exciting new occupational standards.
Technical education has been transformed in recent years through programmes that have ‘reinvented’ and modernised apprenticeships, T Levels and other skills learning. National Apprenticeship Week is designed to encourage the country to consider and celebrate how technical education can help individuals to develop the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career, and employers to develop a workforce with future ready skills. By working together, the aim is to inspire the nation with engaging stories that showcase an increase in confidence, skills, knowledge and demonstrate how apprenticeships have kick-started incredible careers.
