To ensure their range of Ex products have continued compliance to ATEX following Brexit, Quartzelec, the independent engineering service group that’s globally recognised as an expert in rotating electrical machines, has acted to ensure existing ATEX & IECEx certification will remain valid. This action ensures the Quartzelec group of companies can continue to support and sell Ex products within the EU. It also allows international clients to continue to sell completed motors, generators and systems that incorporate Quartzelec products within this important market.
“Safety and compliance is vital for our customers; so to ensure continuity of support and accreditation, we’re taking a proactive approach to actively manage the Declarations of Conformity process and have set aside a financial contingency budget and the necessary manpower to safeguard our services and immediately implement updates where required,” explained Ian Martin, Quartzelec’s Design Manager – Special Projects. “We support motors and other electrical systems currently in use by customers in numerous overseas locations, so by taking this course of action our customers can rest assured that they will remain compliant.”
This change impacts Ex certified Terminal Boxes (including the ever popular Phase Segregated Terminal Box), Condition Monitoring solutions (LIFEVIEW® on-line and offline analysers, sensors and modules), Purge and Protection systems (QuartzPurge) as well as a range of specialist HV motors that are currently designed, manufactured, tested and ultimately shipped with ATEX certificates. Products certified to IECEx standards, a common requirement outside the EU, are unaffected. As part of the conformity process, the majority of Quartzelec certificates will be transferred to the Notified Bodies in mainland Europe to ensure the range of Ex products retain compliance to ATEX following Brexit.
The Quartzelec group can confirm that certificate numbers will remain the same; avoiding major changes to existing documentation. There will be a change to the Notified body number for the issuer of the Quality Assurance Notification (QAN) and some equipment labels may need a minor revision. Declarations of Conformity will be revised to include full details of the Notified bodies. It is expected that the necessary transition will take just hours for the electronic changes to fully implement as revisions to the certification will have been completed by mid October.
Ian Martin concluded: “No matter what political decisions are made concerning Brexit, Quartzelec will be ready and able to deliver comprehensive, uninterrupted and outstanding levels of service to all our European, International and UK based customers.”
